Barbara Henry
Background
Barbara Henry is the founder and executive director of Domino Service Dogs (DSD), a Colorado nonprofit that breaks down the barriers to service dog ownership through an owner-trainer model. She founded DSD out of personal necessity, in honor of her daughter, Caitlin Tyra Brady, who at eight years old — a wheelchair user — was turned away by traditional programs that charged tens of thousands of dollars, kept years-long waitlists, or refused to place dogs with children. Barbara built her own path forward, spending two years training Caitlin's first partner, a 95-pound Great Pyrenees named Badger, who by 2007 helped Caitlin walk, manage floor transfers, and pull her wheelchair, and in doing so restored her independence and confidence. That fight became Barbara's life's work. A Certified Professional Dog Trainer–Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and certified TAGteach educator, Barbara pairs high-level canine behavioral science with a disability-led, "by us, for us" nonprofit mission.

Most owner-trained service dog take 12-24 months to fully certify. Here's what each phase looks like.

We learn about your disability, the tasks your dog will need to perform, and your candidate dog (if you have one). No sales pressure — just an honest read on what's possible.

Domino service animals is a gem of an organization with altruism at its core. Randy and Tanya provided excellent hands-on and thorough training for my service animal in training, Taro, to be a full service dog. For all they do, the cost is very low, and it is clear they are doing charitable work. Anyone who gets to experience what this service has to offer is, in my opinion, lucky and fortunate to have found such a great team. I am very thankful for my time with Domino!

As a client of over a year. DSD has been life changing for our family. This amazing, compassionate and talented team of individuals don’t just train service dogs, they train people who need help to train their dogs for their specific needs. This allows clients to gain precious independence and as a by product, confidence and self reliance.
This team cares about the dogs and the people in their program and go above and beyond to ensure safety for everyone involved. Sometimes that means setting boundaries that people may not understand. As a lifetime dog owner this has been an eye opener for me, I think the most appropriate phrase is I didn’t know what I didn't know! What is Domino Service Dogs owner-trainer model?
Instead of waiting years or paying $25,000–$45,000 for a pre-trained dog, Domino teaches you to train your own service dog — from fundamental obedience through specialized, task-specific work — with professional coaching every step of the way.
How long is the Domino Service Dogs program?
Domino's comprehensive program runs about 24 months, combining weekly instructional classes, private sessions tailored to your medical needs, and real-world public-access outings in the Denver metro area.
What training methods do Domino Service Dogs use?
